Bruce Baxter calls on investors to give Antigua a look
The weather in the winters in Antigua is absolutely exquisite. Until probably early May, we experience low humidity, delightful temperatures range from the mid to high 60’s (Fahrenheit) to the low 80’s, together with a comfortable breeze. In my view, it is just about perfect.
Businesswise, I continue to work to complete the planning and funding of a resort development project called Azure Bay that we believe will soon be supported by a major sovereign wealth fund. I am also advising on two other projects, one of which is on Antigua’s sister island of Barbuda and the other is here in Antigua.
There seems to be a sudden spurt of interest in investment in Antigua. Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (who already has an exquisite 32,000 sq. ft. villa here), together with Russian Prime Minister Putin and a Russian investor, reportedly arrived here on December 26th to consider a new project that is yet to be announced. Another private wealth fund is also seriously considering investment in Antigua, and luminaries like Giorgio Armani, Eric Clapton, the author Ken Follett all have houses here.
Recently, a house on Jumby Bay sold for US$28 million, and the tarmac at our private aviation terminal at the international airport, FBO2000, is literally littered with private jets. Cecilia’s is literally two minutes from the airport and a short walk from Jumby Bay’s dock. It is not to be missed. Some describe it as my office!
In addition to Azure Bay and Cecilia’s, two other places that are my favourites in Antigua are Pearns Point, which is literally the westernmost point on the Island, bisecting the entries to Jolly Harbour to the south and Five Islands Harbour to the north, and very near to Azure Bay, and The Admiral’s Inn in the Nelson’s Dockyard area of beautiful and historic English Harbour on Antigua’s southeast coast. The Admiral’s Inn was the first place I ever stayed on the Island more years ago than I care to admit. It was created as a hotel by one of the driving forces behind Antigua’s famed Antigua Sailing Week which occurs annually in late April/early May.
