Wings Impressive Against Renegades
Despit a 3 - 1 defeat from Renegades, Wings played remarkably well, as rookies on Friday night, Friday February 19, as the Antigua Volleyball Assoc. League continued at the YMCA indoor gym.
Although the first two sets were 25-19, 25-11, the scores did not reflect the passion and temerity of the Wings girls. Having gone through a bit of jitters in the previous sets, Wings romped to an exciting 25-23 to take the third set.
Chekiya Martin showed that she was not only versatile on playing Pan but exhibited some superb overhand services and defense. Others who played exceptionally well were Cecilia Zeng, Fernella Francis and Lisa Sewsankar.
Because it was the Wings' first game, coach Telemaque rotated all the players to give them experience and to see how they would respond under pressure. This was clearly shown in the 4th set which ended 25-12 to Renegades.
It was encouraging to see the number of parents supporting the girls, especially Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Francis and Mrs. Ryan.
Wings next game will be against Da Squad on Saturday February 27 at 6:00 pm. Practice continues on Tuesday, February 23.
