Karate fundraiser this Friday
The Antigua and Barbuda Shotokan Karate Association (ABSKA) is planning to send a team to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) 11th Pan American Karate Championships in Guyana from August 12-15th.
In previous years, the A&B team has achieved success in representing our country at regional and international karate tournaments. In July 2005, Antigua had its best performance to date at the 6th Caribbean Championship which was hosted here in Antigua at the Grand Royal Antiguan Resort. At this tournament, the Antigua team won 11 medals which included seven bronze, two silver and two gold.
The proposed team for the upcoming championships will comprise 15 participants (competing in men, women and children divisions) and two officials, ranked 3 kyu (brown belt) and above. ABSKA's goal is to raise a total of $30,000EC to cover the travel, accommodation and other expenses associated with their participation in this tournament.
As part of fundraising activities, they have scheduled an auction on Friday, July 23rd from 6:30-9PM at the Hibiscus Room, Jolly Beach Resort. A contribution of $50EC will be required and complimentary cocktails will be available throughout the event. ABSKA invites the public to have a great evening while bidding on a wide range of products.
ABSKA has also scheduled a J'ouvert Morning Breakfast on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 6-9AM, at the Antigua Shotokan Karate Club on the corner of Nevis & Cross Street, at a cost of $15EC. The public is invited to come and be rejuvenated throughout the morning festivities with a local breakfast menu.
Other fundraising activities will be undertaken in order to offset the team expenses. Supporting the Shotokan Karate Association encourages the development of youth and young adults through the positive medium of sports.
