Footballers compete in Tortola
FOOTBALL
The Wings Youth Footballers contingent of fifteen (15) players left Antigua on Friday, August 13 for Tortola, BVI, to participate in an invitational tournament. The squad is accompanied by Head Coach, Thadeus Price, Asst. Coach, Lyndon Lawrence and chaperone, Barbara Coates. The team includes: Dave George, Samory Farrell, Ngozie Harvey, Dravid Ramsey, Greg Coates, Ghere Coates, Shaquan Williams, Khenae Emanuel, Melvin James, Derron McIntouch, Donavan Marshall, Jerome Gilead, Ajahrie Hosier, Tyreke Lewis, and Shay Walsh.
It is the first time that the Wings Youth Footballers will be venturing offshore to engage in a major friendly invitational. The youngsters have been engaged earlier this year in the ABFA U-13 Football Program and a few friendly games against the Young Warriors Football Club.
The Wings Youth Footballers were originally programmed to participate in the AC Milan Football Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio, in July, but were unable to reach their financial target to do so, despite fundraising and sponsorship. The Wings Youth Football Committee would like to convey special thank you to the Bank of Nova Scotia, Cary Holder of JBQ Wellness, and PWC, for their kind assistance. Meanwhile, the CPTSA Wings Sports Club is kindly reminding all Female Football Clubs that the 9th Annual Female Football Tournament, is scheduled for October 2-10, 2010. The tournament is expected to be played at the new ABFA grounds on the Sir Sidney Walling Hwy. Teams should register before September 15th.
TRACK & FIELD
Wings Tahir Walsh and Jalil Salmon left Antigua on August 12, to represent Antigua/Barbuda at the First Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore, August 14–26, 2010. Only athletes, ages 14–18 years may participate. Walsh and Salmon will participate in the 100m and 400m, respectively. The athletes are accompanied by Wings’ Head Coach, Everton (Mano) Cornelius.
BASKETBALL
All female basketball teams, local, regional and international are reminded of the 11th Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out, scheduled for November 14–21, 2010.
