Subway Charity Fun Run draws a crowd
This weekend, Subway sponsored its 3rd Annual Subway to Subway Charity Fun Run in aid of the Antigua/Barbuda Cancer Society. The run/walk event from the Subway on Redcliffe St. to Subway on Old Parham Rd and back again was a very exciting and fun-filled event. “We love it. The event has become very close to us, especially this year when we have one child of 15 years with breast cancer,” said Carolyn Aziz, President of the “Why Me” Cancer Society. According to race official, Cordova Popeye Simon, “the event is something worthwhile, and to see it’s giving back to the Cancer Society, it’s a good thing.”
Although the event attracted under 200 people, a bit less than last year’s, the event was well organized and had the support of several volunteer groups. “We were assisted by the Girl Guides, the Princess Margaret School, and the Antigua/Barbuda Athletic Association, which made everything go smoothly, and we wish to thank them very much,” said event sponsor, Sonja Watkins, manager of Subway.
All participants received T-shirts, medals and Subway snacks. The winners in the male category were: 1st George Hippolite in 17:44.44, 2nd Javier Hippolite (18:25.04), and 3rd Neville Nicholls (18:33.35). Winners in the female category were: 1st Cassie Vitalis (22:52.61), 2nd Kevinia Francis (23:51.47), and 3rd Sapphire Davis (24:37.61).
