Bliss Soleyn runs circles around the competition
CKHS hosting inter-house championship
Christ the King High School athletes took to the hard courts of the YMCA last week to engage in friendly rivalry between Green, Beige and Blue Houses. It was a most exciting day for all students and staff and which helped to boost the school’s sports morale.
The houses participated in basketball, netball, volleyball and captain ball. Competition in football will be scheduled for another venue, expected on Friday, February 17th, a day after the much anticipated Track & Field Championship at the YASCO grounds. So far, Blue House is leading the standings with 27 points, while Beige and Green Houses are tied with 22 points each. Blue House is expected to dominate the running events with sprint sensation, Bliss Soleyn taking charge. A number of other athletes including Muesett Jeffers and Cassie Vitalis are, in the meantime, nursing injuries and may not be going all out until the Inter-Schools Track & Field Championship, scheduled for March 10 & 11.
The CKHS team for the 2012 Inter-Schools Track & Field Championships will be selected from the top athletes emerging from the CKHS Championship on Thursday, February 16th.

ABBA League to start
The Antigua/Barbuda Basketball Association has slated March 4th as the opening day of its 2012 basketball league. However, this news is not without some controversy regarding the high registration fee of $1,700.00EC for teams to participate. According to coach of the Express team, Bobby Joseph, “I can’t see why these associations’ registration fees are so high and at the end of the season, they have difficulty in presenting awards, including prize monies.”
However, according to a member of ABBA, the association has a high operation cost, and without substantial sponsorship and fundraising, there is hardly any other way to finance the league. ABBA has to contend with paying game officials, preparing National teams, etc. without the financial assistance of FIBA, unlike some other associations which receive financial support from their international bodies.
Sports service
A number of sports officials, including Dr. Rodney Williams, Director of Sports, Mervin Richards, President of ABVA, Wilbur Harrigan and Neville Fenton, member of the NOC, SAP Football team Wings, participated in Praise & Worship at the Lady of the Valley Church on Sunday, February 5, hosted by Rev. Fr. Franklyn Reid.
