Antigua & Barbuda finish second at Leeward Islands Juniors
Over the weekend, June 9 & 10, An-tigua/Barbuda, participated in the Leeward Islands Junior Track & Field Championship in Road Town, Tortola.
The 23 member team included Cejah Greene, Jarec Jarvis, Javvier Hippolyte, Matthew Mitchell, Micaciah Washington, Mark Phillips, Xavier Joseph, Kenneth Benjamin, Alex Stewart, Travis Campbell in the Boys division; Bliss Soleyn, Sweeney Bruce, Vianni Joseph, Delita Daniel, Kiwandi Morson, Melinda Simpson, Cassie Vitalis and Tenijah Morris in the Girls.
Accompanying the team are: Teddy Daley (Head Coach), Heather Samuel (Asst Coach), Olivette Michael (Chaperone), Dawn Soleyn-Parent, and Richard Lindsay-Manager.
The other countries which competed besides, Antigua and Barbuda, were Anguilla, St. Kitts, USVI, BVI, Montserrat and Guadeloupe.
At the end of Day 1, on Saturday, every athlete on the Antigua/Barbuda team had won, at least, one medal.
The count included 9 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze. Antigua/Barbuda also broke the Leeward Juniors record in the U-17 and U-20 4 X 100M Relays.
At the end of the two-Day Meet, Antigua/Barbuda finished 2nd Place with 10 gold, 18 silver and 5 bronze. BVI won the Championship.
The Most Outstanding Male Athlete went to Zinel Hughes of Anquilla and the Most Outstanding Female Athlete Award went to Lakisha Warner of the BVI.
Antigua/Barbuda also placed 2nd in both the Male and Female 4 x 400M Relays.
