Counting down to the 46th Annual Sport Fishing Tournament
There are only a few days to go to one of Antigua’s favourite events, the Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament, celebrating it’s 46th year in 2012. Located in Nelson’s Dockyard, the sight of more than 40 fishing boats lined up at the dock from this Friday 25th May to Monday 28th May makes for a stunning backdrop to this great event.
Friday sees the kick off with registration of boats throughout the afternoon and a skippers briefing. The boats and crews will be getting ready for the tournament. Aquasports will be on hand offering 15% off to fishing supplies to anglers along with Wadadli Fishing Supplies who will also be offering equipment for sale. For anyone who has never visited the event on registration night, it’s a really enjoyable laid back evening, topped off of course with food fresh from the grill and the EC$5 bar.
The main event then begins with a bimini start at Fort Berkley at 6am on Saturday morning. Seeing all of the boats powering off in different directions to their favoured fishing grounds is an exciting start to anyone’s day. For those who are not fishing but love to lime, the afternoon lime starts at 3pm.
New for this year The Grab n’ Go stall from Food and Drink Guide will be crewed by some of the islands favourite chef personalities...
Colleen Simpson, Julian Waterer, Olvanah Richardson-Burnette, Christopher Terry, Randolph Looby, Indy Little and Selwyn James. All chefs are featured in the award winning ‘tablemanners cookbook & guide’.
Their Sport Fishing menu is designed to be delicious, quick and kind to your wallet. Everything they serve you’ll be able to eat with one hand, whilst balancing your party liquor in the other!
The Grill Masters Colleen, Olvanah and Christopher will prove to you why they’re the best local chefs in town. Enjoy homemade gourmet beef, chicken, tofu and fish burgers. Julian’s slow roasted Pulled Pork-in-a-Bun will have you licking your lips as you wine your hips! Randolph’s Steamed Fish Kebabs, Selwyn’s “Master-Blaster” Seafood soup and Indy’s authentic Trini Doubles will keep everyone happy.
Along with the EC$5 bar, the wine and prosecco bars, kids games and music from Chickie, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this laid back lime.
The fish weigh takes place from 4.30pm on Saturday and 4.00pm on Sunday when you get to see who brings in the biggest catch. All fish is then available for sale fresh from the catch.
The final prize giving will take place on Sunday evening and on Monday the 2nd Annual one day Marlin Classic will see boats competing for the purse in this Marlin only tournament.
Enjoy the fishing, Enjoy the Lime!
