Hamilton's: the perfect canvas for an unforgettable evening
Greeted by bright smiles, a delectable aroma, and the promise of a warm and unforgettable evening, our recent evening at Hamilton’s Wine Bar & Bistro was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Set along the pristine harbour nestled within the Nelson’s Dockyard, we were enveloped with history, culture, and adventure. Between co-owner Emma’s charming smile and greetings, and Chef Katie’s scrumptious creations, our evening was positive energy (laughter and cheers), a more than satisfied palate, and good times.
Celebrating a year since they opened their doors, Emma and Katie are pleased to continue their tradition of great food, creating an ambience that welcomes you like a familiar friend.
The night began with an appetizer guaranteed to incite our appetites, setting our palate in mode. The tuna tartar, freshly caught that very day offered a Mediterranean rush as olives burst in our mouths. The shrimp tempura was divine – plump and erupting with flavour, enhanced by the homemade chilli, ginger and coriander sauce for the perfect explosion of zest. The starters did their job and initiated anticipation of the entrées.
Hamilton’s provides a perfect range of tastes that is sure to satisfy all who pass through their doors. From Angus sirloin steaks and homemade fish pies to lobster and pork tenderloins.
The night’s choices were rack of lamb and mahi-mahi, both finely seasoned to perfection. Our tastebuds experienced personal heaven with the juicy bursts of flavour from the rack of lamb and the supple texture of the exotic fish. The lamb was served with the most delicious scalloped potatoes you could imagine; creamy and scintillating to the bite. The fish shared the spotlight with perfectly steamed pumpkins, carrots, and the most delicious spinach.

While it was almost impossible, we avoided filling up in order to make room for dessert. Meanwhile, the live musical performance of 17°61° was brilliant, with their amazing blend of Caribbean flavour of jazz, R&B, and pop. Celebrating Hamilton’s first anniversary, the band had the dance floor packed and jumping, taking their fans through moods of Bob Marley, Katie Perry, and everything in between.
Next up was the sweetest part of the night and the icing on our amazing culinary experience. We sampled a delightful chocolate mousse, a richer-than-rich cheesecake, and our tongues sizzled with the fresh fruit meringue.
If you’re looking for the perfect place to unwind, Hamilton’s Wine Bar & Bistro is a must. It offers the ambience, the food, and the perfect canvas to paint an unforgettable evening.
