Treetops - Dining in your very own secret garden
The Ambience
If you are a nature lover, then the tranquil surroundings of Treetops Restaurant in the north-east community of Coolidge, Antigua, will satisfy your desires to embrace all things flora and fauna. Enjoy dining with talkative parrots, or catch a glimpse of other species of birds nesting over the garden. Nestled within two acres of lovingly manicured greenery lies Antigua’s very own “secret gardenâ€, a chic restaurant that provides the perfect ambience to complement a hearty meal.
The Food
After taking in the lovely setting it’s almost easy to forget the main purpose of your visit, the fine dining, but for those of us whose tummy acts like an alarm clock, you’ll be sure to be reminded. Recently the restaurant has changed up the menu. Guests may now enjoy lunch starters such as delicious salt fish accra’s served with sweet chili sauce or beer-battered fish with an accompanying garden salad. The dinner menu has also evolved to include a scrumptious seafood pasta main with a hint of white wine and sautéed shrimp in a creamy mustard sauce. If you still haven’t had your fill and your sweet tooth is beginning to ache then be sure to order the rich chocolate “Treetops brownie†served with a velvety chocolate sauce. And don’t worry about the final bill, as according to proprietor Peter (PJ) Harker, Treetops provides “Jumby Bay quality with Coolidge pricesâ€.
This unique dining establishment also boasts the fabulous Undercover DJ, who personally sets the mood for any partying that might be planned for “aftersâ€. Even if you had no intentions of going anywhere but to bed…it would be a tough decision since the music would have already convinced your dancing feet by night’s end. The enjoyment of a good meal with family and friends is effortless in the welcoming dining area bathed in soft lighting, candles and comfortable seating, and a well-stocked bar beckons those choosing to unwind after a long week. And on the weekend, Treetops also caters to families with its Undercover DJ-fueled “Barbeque Lime†every Sunday from 1pm to 7pm.
The Owner
According to Harker, who is originally from Jamaica, the restaurant grew out of the main focus of the business which is primarily event planning. Treetops is well-known for hosting weddings, birthday parties and many other elaborate functions by transforming aspects of the garden to create a personal, unforgettable ambience and experience. With a natural wood gazebo, a waterfall flowing into a fish-filled pond and a ‘kissing bridge’ that leads you into the garden, not to mention the inventory of around 3,000 plants, it’s easy to picture how such an already beautiful setting can be transformed into something amazing. The many plants are not just for décor purposes, under the umbrella of PJ’s nursery, guests may purchase gift items or take advantage of plant rentals. Harker, who has been in business for twelve years, considers Treetops as a one-stop shop for furnishings, food and nature. As his brochure says, “Butterflies and birds visit, so you should too.â€
