Cricket on the Beach
It was a beautiful Antigua Friday afternoon on Jolly Beach at Castaways Beach Bar. And what better way for folks to spend it than participating in a friendly cricket match. Owner of Sugar Ridge Hotel, Aidan McCauley gathered a group of very apt cricketers, many who arrived from the UK. He challenged cricket legend Richie Richardson who also assembled a team which included a number of other cricket legends. In attendance were Richie Richardson himself, Curtly Ambrose, Kenny Benjamin, Courtney Walsh and Ridley Jacobs as well as local players.
The match boasted some terrific bowling from both teams, lots of 6's and plenty plenty of fun. The match came to a draw with identical scores of 150 for 8 after 15 overs. Chris Bourne — who was also celebrating his 40th birthday — was the star of the match. He won 'Best Player', 'Highest Batting Score' and 'Best Bowler'. He walked away with three bottles of English Harbour Rum and three Windies Legends caps.
The match ended with a mere one point difference. English Harbour Rum was awarded to the most outstanding players by songstress, diva Shermain Jeremy. A taste of the action for the following evening's events at Sugar Club for Aidan's huge 40th birthday celebration, was provided by a member of the Cuban Brothers as he rapped in a well-packed speedo.
Kudos to all the players, thanks to Indigo Events Services for managing the event and well done Aidan for getting such a great group together.
