2500 Miles Across the Atlantic
One of the competitors from the recently completed Atlantic Rowing Race 2009, arrived in Antigua last week and Shelly Chadburn among many fans, family and friends were there to greet and cheer. Pete Van Ket age 43, rowed over 2500 miles in the Nyamezela. THAT'S RIGHT two thousand five hundred miles, across the Atlantic, from the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa. The trip started on January 4th and took more than two months to complete, arriving here in Antigua on March 21st, 2010.
Pete is very proud of his incredible achievement and rightly so. His boat is named Nyamezela which is an Isixhosa word meaning "to push through tough times". The team's website can be viewed by clicking here. All the competition's teams can be viewed here.
