Offshore Music Ltd. brings Ministry of Sound to Abra's
First there was Motown’s “Wall of Sound”, now there is the UK’s Ministry of Sound. The premier, DJ-driven dance-fueled nightclub experience originates out of London, England, and tours extensively bringing the latest in dance music to fans around the world. From China, to Brazil and all points in-between, this professional stable of DJ’s and artistes bring the rhythm & bass sounds of house, soul, trance, disco and electronic music to fans of these genres. So it is with much celebration that one of the dance collectives’ next performances will be right here in Antigua at the end of this month. Offshore Music Ltd., brainchild of local producer and composer Torsten Stenzel, organised the event, a second of hopefully regular Ministry of Sound stints in on the island. Stenzel hopes to introduce the musical styles to Antigua, to complement traditional genres like calypso, soca and reggae, as well as give followers of the industry the chance to experience an authentic UK dance club atmosphere – Caribbean style; “I definitely believe there is a market for a different kind of music than what is currently available in Antigua, especially for young people. I see dance music as a perfect complement to an evening out grooving to local sounds, and in the case of Ministry of Sound, with an added international flair.”
The featured DJ on the night is Shik Stylko (Sebastian Krieg – Peppermint Jam Records, Pink Star Records). The Munich-based DJ has worked extensively with other top DJs across Europe, UK and US, and has branched into studio work, resulting in remixes for musicians like Dannii Minogue and Future Funk. Shik Stylko’s house music label Realbasic Recordings started in 2002, featuring a track with house legend Tyree Cooper “Groove You Out Tonight”. The track reached number seven at the Mixmag-Hype Charts in England, is listed on numerous compilations, and played by DJs like Knee Deep Brothers, Eddie Amador, Milk & Sugar, Howard Donald and Ben Watt in clubs around the world. Under the pseudonym Night People, the popular club anthem ”L’Afreaque” is played by major DJs like Eric Morillo, Miguel Miggs, and Hardsoul. DJ’s Offshore (Offshore Music), Alan Russell (Black Vinyl Records), York (Ministry of Sound), Luyo, and special Life guest Promise, will round out the night’s spin masters.
Ministry of Sound and guests will be appearing at Abracadabra’s in English Harbour, on Saturday, January 30th. The evening isn’t just about the music though, as every guest will receive giveaways upon entry, visual effects will be staged by Antigua’s own “VJ” Federico Luglio of Luyo Sound System, and Ministry of Sound dancers are slated to perform. And, in a bid to help dance fans get to and from the event safely, Offshore Music will provide a special shuttle service from the AUA campus on Friars Hill Road.
Tickets are $30 prior to the event and $40 at the door. For ticket sales, the contact number is 268.464.3202.
