"If you go to sleep thinking about something and wake up with it on your mind, you were born to do it"
My name is Ardis D. Laville. From the age of five I have had an indescribable passion for art, music, dance and overall creativity. It was not until the age of nine that I discovered my abilities in the performing arts arena. I live by this quote because it truly describes my passion for modelling.
When I first began modelling three years ago, I wasn't confident enough to put myself out there. In the industry I am considered too short at 5'1". It is probably one of the touchiest of topics to discuss, and I was devastated knowing that my height is the strongest barrier to pursuing that career. I do consider my dancing background one of my greatest assets to modelling, though it is difficult to separate the two sometimes. I consider myself driven, willing to learn and take criticism. There are many people and things that inspire me. My family and friends are very supportive but it is their confidence and positive energy that inspires me the most.
On America's Next Top Model (my favourite television show), short models were given the opportunity to go beyond the stereotype and prove that under 5'7" models have the ability, drive, and passion to perform. Also, Eva Pigford Marcille), the winner of Cycle 3 is definitely someone who inspires me the most, being the shortest model ever to win ANTM.
I believe that it is not just a pretty face or ability that makes you model but the ever flowing passion from the depths of your heart that leaves a memory when a person hears your voice or sees your picture. It is my dream to one day make an impact in the fashion industry as a short model, if not personally, by doing all I can to inspire and aid someone who shares the same passion and dream as I do.
In life there are always obstacles and this is one barrier I will not let keep me down.
