Kids on Darkwood Beach
Darkwood Beach is a gently sloping, calm, sandy beach on the west coast of Antigua just south of Ffryes Beach and Jolly Harbour. Being on the Caribbean side of the island, the water is generally calm.
It is a great snorkelling spot with a gentle slope out to some rocky areas. While most of the year it is amazing for family swimming and frolicking, certain times of the year (spring) there can be jellyfish if you swim out into deeper water. Care is also suggested when snorkelling since there is fire coral in the area. It is common to see small fish, crabs, coral and sea plant life beyond the sandbar.
You can enjoy lunch, a cold drink, rent gear or beach loungers right there on the beach. Say hello to propietor Clyde and his wife who have owned the rustic location which has weathered a number of hurricanes over the years.
Could there be a better beach than Darkwood Beach for the entire family to enjoy?! One of the best beaches in the West Indies, for sure. Oh and thanks to Ché and Willow for modelling the shoot. Even the Antigua & Barbuda Tourist Board loved these photos. Shout out to the crew at the Board.
