"Bigger, better, more diverse": Mango Festival promises global flair
Every year our family goes to Mango Fest and comes home with many varieties of the delicious and healthy fruit. We've been informed that Antigua produces over 25 distinct kinds of mango, and we try our best to consume as many as humanly possible. We eat what we can before they 'poil, cut up the rest and store in the freezer for "out-of-season" smoothies.
But there's more than one way to skin a mango...we also come away with jellies, jams, hot sauces, and, bless the ministry of agriculture...baby fruit trees. There's one planted in our backyard that's rather curious...the grafted part broke off somewhere along the line but the remaining tree is thriving! Will the ungrafted fruit be just as tasty? Only time will tell.
This year, there's even more on offer for the general public, with the unveiling of a new eco-documentary focussing on the exploits of children who attended the Environment Division's EcoZone camp. The doc's meant to inform and engage the public in the history and purpose of the Christian Valley.
Don't forget to check out Search Antigua's stirring slideshow video shot to promote last year's event. Click here to see the fleshy, tart, citrusy, apricot-like, stringy, firm, sweet, sweet mangoes in their glory.
