A day gone to the dogs
Dog lovers from all over the island got together this past Sunday for the Third Annual Dog Show at Spring Hill Riding Stables. By rough estimates about 600 people showed up and about 100 dogs were entered into the various classes, plus many more dogs just spectating!
The show started at 1:00 pm and went way over its 6:00 pm finish time. Dan a mixed breed dog took home ‘Pedigree’s Best In Show’ for the second year in a row. Second and third place winners were Coco, mixed breed, owned by Lyn Pierce of English Harbor and Scruffy a Golden Retriever owned by Kirsty Knoblatch.
Winner for Fancy Dress was Monique Francis with Wolfie, Shasta and the Rasta Family and Cutest Dog in Antigua went to Reggie, owner Vanessa O’Brien of Jolly Beach and runner up Kong owned by Vaughan Jackson.
The agility course winners for small medium and large dogs were Fuella, Rasta Man, Kissy, medium sized dogs Omfazi, Rosie, Cocoa, and large dogs, Dan, Suzie and Billy Bob.
Event organizers were thrilled with the turnout and Chairwoman, Janie Easton said this year’s attendance had increased by 50% and dog entries by 50%. She added she hoped the event would shine a light on dogs and the value and joy they can add to our lives.
Antigua Dog Show wishes to thank its sponsors Pedigree, Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd for their unfailing support in everything dog and for helping to make the dog show such a success. Thanks also to Happy Pets, Digicel, Military Defence Force, TCM, Horizon, Premier Beverage, Best Cellars, Hamilton Restaurant, Calabash, Cloggys, Wadadli Brewers, Pampred Pets and everyone else who supported us.
Proceeds from the event go to support Springhill Riding Stables and PAAWS Animal Shelter of Parham.
