Jaycees Caribbean Queen Contestant Profile: Miss Sakina Alleyne
The Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show 2010 proudly introduces their Barbadian contestant Miss Sakina Akilah Keziah Alleyne. Miss Alleyne is 21 years of age and currently a student of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, pursuing a Bachelors in Accounting. She also holds an Associates Degree in Accounting and Information Technology from the Barbados Community College. Her hobbies include acting, cooking, playing netball and watching National Geographic. But aside from these activities she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and giving aide to those in need. Miss Alleyne's special interest is in children. She firmly believes that they are our future and we should work to ensure that they are given the guidance and discipline necessary to help society. As such she shows example in herself being a part-time teacher. A Harry Potter fan, Alleyne's favourite writer is J.K. Rowling.
When asked to describe her personality she states that she is "determined, focused, patriotic, inquisitive, generous and aring". Perhaps an outlook that originates from her philosophy of life - “Anything is possible through Christ who strengthens me”. A good samaritan, Alleyne is a proud volunteer at Children Summer camps. She has even volunteered with the Guild of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus to pack barrels with supplies to send to Haiti, after the island was ravaged by the 7.0 earthquake.
As she has stated, Sakina Akilah Keziah Alleyne loves her country of Barbados. She loves Barbados so much that when asked who her most admired West Indian was, she proudly stated that it is the late Honorable Errol Walton Barrow: father of the nation of Barbados and one of the West Indies's most recognisable heroes. Already aspiring to do so much for her community, the Jaycees contestant sees herself as a successful entrepreneur establishing her own accounting firm, while still teaching part-time in the next five years.
