'De Bear' wins Calypso Monarch 2010
Calypso Monarch at the ARG took place on Sunday August 1st as Antiguan Calypsonians competed, crooning to the audience their Calypso songs.
The Calypso Monarch (and a spiffy, brand new automobile) went to 'De Bear'. The 1st runner-up place was taken by Trevor Zacari King... And close on his heels was his very own daughter, 'Princess' Thalia King.
There were surprise guests; some of which were coolly received, while another caused quite a stir. The evening was not without its controversy as 'De Bear' trotted out his associate — and repeat convicted felon — Hilroy 'Bulgany' Boatswain.
Prior to the final night, 'De Bear' got himself into hot water as he was warned to modify his song The Judgement due to objectionable content which may have been challenged in court, had he not heeded complaints.
Calypso audiences have not been as large as years past. The result is talk that Calypso 2011 may be moved so Jouvert can coincide with a more popular Carnival related event. However, for now, no definitive decisions have been made.
