Expressions: Poetry In the Pub to screen local film
The last session of the year for Expressions: Poetry In the Pub will be held on Tuesday, December 13, and will feature the short film Dinner. Recently screened at last month’s inaugural Antigua & Barbuda Film Festival, and the Jamaica Reggae Film Festival in Kingston Jamaica in late May, Dinner is the screen adaptation of Tameka Jarvis-George's poem of the same name. Produced by Cinque Productions, Dinner captures the sights, sounds and taste of Antigua mixed with tantalizing sensual lyrics and the mutual passion shared between a loving couple.
At 34 years of age and married with two children, Tameka works in architecture and shipping, and published her first novel Unexpected, in 2010. She has published three books of poetry including; Thoughts from the Pharcyd in 1999, and I Am I Am that I Am in 2002 by Watermark Press in Washington D.C., the latter a result of winning a publishing contract through a poetry competition. Tameka is currently in the process of writing her second novel.
Expressions "Poetry on Screen" will begin at 8pm at the Heavenly Java 2 Go, located on the boardwalk of Redcliffe Quay. Dinner will be shown at 8:15 pm, and will be followed by a Q & A with the filmmaker herself. Expressions poets will step to the mic in their true creative form backed by resident keyboardist Kimdale Mackellar. There will also be a small exhibit previewing artist and Expressions regular Glenroy Aaron's upcoming collection "Spectrum".
To top off the evening, audiences will be captivated by the sounds of Verse 5 Improve as they perform a selection of neo-soul, RnB and jazz songs. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy an alternative form of entertainment. For more information call 268.779.6634 or email augustrush.antigua@gmail.com.
