Antiguan Edison Liburd exhibits at Art At The Ridge
News you can use from Art At the Ridge:
Women Who Care donated funds to the new St. John Hospice at the former Holberton Hospital. Women Who Care, a charitable body, consists of a small group of dedicated and caring women who hold regular second-hand book sales and craft fairs throughout the year in order to raise funds for the hospice. Their craft fairs, usually held in Jolly Harbour, bring together many of the island’s wonderful craftspeople and all of their beautiful creations.
Last weekend, Art At The Ridge was involved in the Kiwanis Club’s 97th anniversary, which brings together clubs in the Eastern Caribbean region, including the Antiguan club. The Kiwanis Club has 8,400 clubs in 96 nations. The groups sponsor programmes and projects that help people in need, focussing on children and the community, in order to change and improve the world. The Kiwanis Club is keen to support and promote young people and to highlight their achievements as examples to other young people. Art At The Ridge featured work by young Antiguan artist Glenroy Aaron at a Kiwanis event at the Copper & Lumber Store Hotel, including an auction of one of Glenroy’s paintings.
It is heartening, even in these challenging times, to see people helping each other. It is during times like this that art continues to be important and necessary. It uplifts us and gives us hope, which in itself makes a difference and can bring about changes to our situation.
A reminder that our next art exhibition is next week on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, in the bar lounge at Sugar Club (Sugar Ridge), featuring Antiguan artist Edison Liburd. It will be a collection of exciting and expressionist art.
New Art At The Ridge this week: more creative crafts by Debbie Bruschi, including hand-painted calabash bowls, cheerful fridge magnets, handmade pencil cases, shell keyrings, mermaid dolls, mosaic frames, and ‘record’ bowls (you’ll have to see them to know what this means!)
