Cinephilia alert: Local film festival premieres this November
The Motion Picture Association of Antigua and Barbuda (MPAAB) was established in 2009, when a number of local film enthusiasts came together with the sole purpose of forming an association for the mutual benefit of all its members.
This year from November 8-13, 2011, the MPAAB in partnership with the Caribbean Film Corner, (a U.K.-based film company) will host the island's first annual film festival. This is a festival with a twist, where you can learn behind-the-scenes tips and tricks of the trade in industry sessions. Sound and lighting, acting, scriptwriting, and film production sessions await those looking to enter the gritty and glamourous world of movie making.
At the Deluxe Cinemas you can see for the first time - or get your second fix - from locally-filmed flicks such as Once in an Island and Memoirs of the Blue, alongside regional offerings including those from Jamaica (The Coast, Missed), Venezuela (Jesus TV), Dominica (Nom Tew), and Trinidad and Tobago (Tears for Kisses, A Girl, Quiet Desperation).
As with all major film festivals, the invitation-only after party is a must-see-and-be-seen event. This time, the red-carpet fabulousness is happening on the evening of November 11th, at the Copper and Lumber Store Hotel in English Harbour.
