'Forbidden Love' the tragic Caribbean love story
Which is more powerful: the love of two young people who's bond sees only the person they desire... OR the prejudices of family and cultural clashes that result?
Forbidden Love delves into the familiar territory of love vs family. Specifically, Forbidden Love tackles the difficult relationship sometimes experienced between Antiguans and Jamaican rastafarians. A young middle-classed Antiguan woman falls for a charming Jamaican rasta who emigrated with his single mother from Jamaica. While this young couple's love knows no bounds, the vehemence from her upwardly mobile Antiguan family presents the greatest hurdle in the development of their seemingly 'forbidden' romantic relationship.
How will the young couple cope with her family's outrage? How far will her family take their disapproval? Do they belong together? Should such a matching even take place? Will her family see past their racial blinders and see him for what he is: a good man who wishes to do right by their daughter.
Find out by attending Forbidden Love presented by the Antigua National Youth Theatre. This performance is specifically for Antigua & Barbuda's 29th Independence Anniversary. Seasoned acting talents Harold Wilson and Sharon Joshua (who played Beatrice in the play My Birthright) are joined by newcomer Marvalene Mclean among others.
The theatrical performance of Forbidden Love will take place one night only, on Tuesday 2nd of November at 8pm sharp at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre.
