In Antigua, we are on the last stretch before the opening of Carnival is upon us, and like every other woman playing mas, I am seeking that nice flat washboard stomach that will compliment my costume. Realistically speaking I know I won't be able to get any cuts around my waist like a Ciara or a Beyonce in such a short time, but I would like to be able to sport a decent semi-toned waistline. It is for this reason I was so excited to get a copy of the Fit For Carnival nutritional and workout DVD. When the DVD was placed in my hand, I took it as a sign. I needed to get fit.
Workout DVDs are very convenient for busy people that find it so difficult to obtain the time to go to the gym, attend an aerobics class, or even run around their neighborhood. Fit For Carnival includes all levels and advanced workouts with valuable nutrition tips needed not only to be fit for Carnival, but all year 'round. An Antiguan living overseas, Kevinia Francis is the DVDs' instructor who takes you through the motions, promising a guaranteed program for the ultimate body conditioning and sculpturing. Francis is an Isagenix Independent Consultant, CPR Certified, NCSF Certified personal trainer, Martial Arts instructor, Silver Sneaker Certified instructor, Kettlebell Certified Instructor and Crossfit Instructor. To put it frankly, she is licensed to inflict pain on those loose pounds of fat that show their reluctance to leave.
So, I went home with my present, excited at the fact that it was a local initiative, the result of a private session conducted at YMCA by Francis a few weeks before. I was going to get fit and support my own as I did it. I got home, and hurriedly changed into workout gear, got out my yoga mat, dusted off my hand weights and went into the living room. I popped the DVD in and began my trek. The DVD is divided into segments; nutrition, abs, all levels and advanced stages. I clicked on Nutrition, and watched with utter disappointment as Francis began to point out the food I wasn't supposed to eat. What do you mean no pancake mix? Once again, there is no healthy shortcut to weight loss, I had to ensure that I had balanced diet that provided all the nutrients I needed, while still aiding in muscle growth.
After the shock of being told my favourite foods were bad for me, I went on to the abs section. Once again another killer. Clearly this wasn’t going to be easy. Francis takes you through trough core conditioning that targets all the important areas of weight loss in both men and women. That’s right, the DVD caters for both men and women. All in all I finished my first workout very sweaty, signs that my tired lazy muscles did need the exercise. The workout program gets my two thumbs up, it is a top class exercise course that will reap the benefits that you want, just give it a try.
Fit For Carnival was produced by J. Omari Harrigan of Chosen Sounds Studios and directed by Lawson Lewis of Palette Designs. The DVD is presently available at Bike Plus, Ken’s Club and Cool and Smooth at a very affordable price of EC$39.99, and will soon be available at supermarkets across the island. The workout features the hypest Soca songs including Tian Winter’s Soca Rebels, providing entertainment as you shape and tone (the theme song is sung by Fucha Kid). So when you see me looking all nice and trim for Carnival and mas don’t even bother to ask me what I did, save yourself the trouble, purchase the ‘Fit For Carnival’ DVD today.
